What did you learn or "take-away" from this course and how has your perspective about integrating technology into K-6 education changed/grown throughout the course?

  • Before taking this course this semester, the use of technology within the classroom was not something that I thought of very much. I knew that the advancement of technology had a large impact on our everyday lives, but I never thought of it's intentional connection to teaching. However, the EDUC 3326 course was incredibly informative and has truly opened my eyes into the world of education technology. It has taught me the importance of technology integration and how it enhances and benefits both the teaching profession and student learning in classrooms! Each week, I was able to explore multiple apps and technological tools that I could utilize in my future teaching practice. I was able to challenge myself creatively and find ways to integrate technology within the curriculum in a way that is authentic, engaging, and beneficial for student learning
How did this course answer your "burning" question about the use of digital technologies in K-6 education?
  • My burning question was how us as educators can ensure that technology can be accessible and inclusive for all learners regardless of both socioeconomic factors and learning disabilities/challenges. During this COVID-19 pandemic, I feel that the education system is realizing now, more than ever, how important technology has become. The shift to online learning has made me wonder about those students who may not have these resources outside of the classroom. I was fortunate to complete my practicum in a school where the students had access to their own laptops/computers at home, but I am still left wondering what happens to those who do not. I wholeheartedly understand that this issue is much more complex, but I choose to make this a motivating factor that will help me make a difference in education in the future.
  • Through my experience at practicum, I have also learned that technology actually creates multiple avenues for unique learners. Technology has proven to be both an aide for students with learning disabilities and a means to create engaging and differentiated learning experiences in the classroom.
How did you contribute to the learning of others? What did you learn from others?
  • During this steam semester, I was lucky enough to be able to collaborate and engage in learning with my peers, my instructors, and my mentor teacher during practicum. It is so great to see concepts and topics from multiple perspectives and viewpoints. I have learned so much from every person that I have come across this semester, and it has really shaped my teaching identity and what I value when it comes to education. I hope that I was able to do the same for others. I know that the exchange of knowledge between our education community was truly meaningful and impactful!
